started as a film society in 1971 with the objective of spreading film appreciation culture and promoting good cinema of individual expression and artistic excellence.

in order to achieve its objective, has developed its own infrastructure with the support of the Karnataka state government in having an open-air theatre, a multi-purpose auditorium and a reference library.

being conscious of the technological advancements, particularly in the field of visual media, has also embarked on a mission to set up a DVD projector in its auditorium for the benefit of its members, and also film buffs and students of film studies.
